Gov. Pillen honors military spouses with new service ribbon

Nebraska celebrated its first National Guard Spouse Appreciation Day by honoring five women for their sacrifices and support while their husbands serve in the military. Nebraska held a ceremony to honor military spouses, including Jeanne Varejcka, and introduced the Nebraska National Guard Military Spouse Service Ribbon. Varecka was one of five women honored for their support during their husbands' military service. The ceremony also marked the establishment of the Nebraska national Guard Military Service Ribbon and a proclamation by Gov. Jim Pillen declaring Oct. 27, 2026, as Nebraska National Guards Spouse Appreciation Day. The idea for the ribbon came from Dennis Krewcklow, a command sergeant major with the Nebraska Guard, who was inspired by his own wife.
