Douglas County sees big jump in in-person early voting as mail ballot requests fall
We are almost a week out from the 2026 Mid-Term Elections, and new numbers are giving us a glimpse into who is casting their ballots so far. Douglas County, Nebraska, has seen a significant increase in in-person early voting compared to the 2022 midterms, with a decrease in mail ballot requests. The Douglas County Election Commission, which is almost a week ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, saw an increase of nearly 5,000 early voting. The commission believes this increase may be due to people feeling more secure in picking up their ballots. The data also shows more registered Democrats have cast their votes than registered republicans so far. As of Oct. 23, 47% of early votes cast were from registered democrats, 33% were Republicans, 19.2% were non-partisan, and 0.8% were other. The U.S. Postal Service recommends sending your ballot by Tuesday, Oct. 27 to ensure it arrives on time.
