The Omaha City Council has approved new regulations allowing e-scooters to operate 24 hours a day in time for the College World Series.
At its Tuesday meeting, the council approved a resolution allowing dockless electric scooters like those operated by Lime to operate at all hours of the day. The scooters were previously restricted to use between 5:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m., according to the resolution.
The resolution also allows for group rides, where one rider with a Lime account can sponsor rides for up to four friends. Currently, each rider has to have their own account.
In a press release, Lime said the changes will provide a boost to the local economy during the College World Series.
Representatives with Lime will be located by the Park Omaha garage on Capitol Avenue between 12th and 13th Streets on Saturday and Sunday to educate riders about safe riding, proper parking and the rule changes, the press release said. Lime will also have helmets available.
“Shared e-scooters are thriving in Omaha and all of us at Lime are grateful to the city and its elected officials for encouraging sustainable transportation options for College World Series attendees this year,” LeAaron Foley, Senior Director of Government and Community Affairs at Lime, said in the release.
