Some of Omaha’s best tacos are in South Omaha, about a five mile drive from the College World Series HQ, but if you’re short on time before a game, you’ll find some more than credible versions near Charles Schwab Field:

The proprietors of this north downtown favorite say they have “gourmet tacos made from scratch.” And they’re delicious.

Try trendy birria tacos with consommé, chile grilled tacos, tacos al pastor, chile and beer-braised chicken tacos.

It also has shrimp, carne asada, guajillo chicken and chorizo tacos.

And rumor has it they are among the best — and most reasonably priced — in the city.

This modern bistro in the Old Market puts its own spin on tacos, and it’s a winner.

It serves fish tacos with either beer-battered or blackened mahi in flour tortillas with avocado salsa, red cabbage and cumin-carrot crema; or beer-battered lobster tacos in fried flour tortillas with pineapple habanero pico de salsa, arbol chili aioli, red cabbage and havarti cheese.

They aren’t super traditional, but they’re super tasty.

This one breaks the rules a little: It’s 2.9 miles from the stadium (a 10-minute drive or a long-ish walk). But its customized version of the birria taco is a must-try.

Omaha food blogger Dan Hoppen says the taco, called the fuego, comes on a crispy grilled handmade corn tortilla, the stew meat is rich and the melty cheese “oozes out the sides.”

Sounds like it’s worth the trip.

It’s only available on weekdays.
