Former Husker athlete brings unique expertise to lead Omaha Supernova’s medical team JaJaime Seeman, a former Nebraska softball player, has been named the lead doctor for the Omaha Supernovas' medical team. She is an OB-GYN and oversees the team's human performance team, which includes a full-time athletic trainer, sports psychologist, orthopedic specialists, optomology, dentistry, and strength and conditioning coaches. Seeman believes she is the first lead doctor of a professional team in America that specializes in women's health. She also highlights the importance of having a women’s health doctor for female athletes, citing issues such as cancer screening, periods, and birth control as a crucial recruitment tool for female sports medicine. Her role also includes mentoring athletes and helping them navigate motherhood.

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Jaime Seeman is no stranger to competition.
“I get to sit behind the bench and feel the energy of competition again,” she said.
In the early 2000s, Seeman played softball for the University of Nebraska. In 2020, she competed on NBC’s “The Titan Games.”
Now, the Nebraska native is back in the competition world with a new role: lead doctor for the Omaha Supernovas.
“I went to obstetrics and gynecology not thinking I was going to be in sports medicine,” said Seeman.
Seeman is an OB-GYN. She oversees the Supernovas’s human performance team including a full-time athletic trainer, sports psychologist, orthopedic specialists, optomology, dentistry, and strength and conditioning coaches.
She believes she’s the first lead doctor of a professional team in America that specializes as an OB-GYN, but she explains why having a women’s health doctor is important for female athletes.
“Cancer screening, problems with periods, birth control. I mean you name it. Women have unique needs outside of orthopedic injuries like shoulders, ankles, and knees.”
She’s also part of a small group of women who are the lead doctors of a professional team. According to a study in the Orthopedic Journal of Medicine, women accounted for just 13 of 183 identified lead doctors across eight major American sports leagues, or about 7%.
And her role goes beyond the exam room.
“Not only be a physician but to be a mentor to these athletes,” she said.
She’s helping them navigate motherhood, too. A number of the players are mothers themselves, with player Gina Mancuso also recently announcing her pregnancy. All the while Seeman’s own three daughters are watching women’s athletics grow and evolve.
“It’s really fun to just see the inspiration and excitement in their eyes when they see these women compete at this level.”
When Seeman was a player, obstetrics and gynecology team doctors were unheard of. Soon she expects more to join her in the ranks.
